The future
| You have been probably been using materials available today based on bus shelters you have seen. However, new materials are constantly being developed and maybe passengers will want the bus shelters to do different things for them in the future? | ![]() |
Intergalactic Bus Shelter Project
| Client: | Thrust Bus Company |
| Location: | Planet Blackwind |
Project brief:
The challenge is to design and make a bus shelter for outer space for the Thrust Bus Company.
It should be a shelter where passengers can wait in comfort for the next space shuttle to run from the Planet Blackwind to Earth and back. The environment is hostile with temperatures below freezing. There are also very high winds. The shelter will need to be very protective.
The shelter needs to hold twenty passengers at one time with somewhere to sit, store their luggage, find travel information and updates and keep warm. They will also need to be able to buy refreshments for the journey (which takes three hours) and be entertained whilst they wait.
Shuttles arrive every thirty minutes travelling to and from Blackwind.
You will need to come up with some sketch ideas, a final drawing and some models to show your ideas and materials you would like to use.
Good luck!
How could you make the shelters more attractive, more local, more interactive and more comfortable?
Could you have web-screens, a mobile phone connection to download timetable information or clever materials in the roof that changed depending on how strong the sun was?
Could there be solar panels to power heaters in the cold or information boards?
How could you stop graffiti and vandalism by the design or materials used?
